Pair of small-format accordion-fold Japanese albums, together containing 74 delicately hand-colored albumen prints; one with 24 prints depicting geishas and the other containing 50 jewel-like images of temples, landscapes, occupationals, cities and rural agriculture. Hand-colored mounted albumen prints (74 total), each approximately 4x5 1/2 inches (10.2x14 cm.), and the reverse, with the original protective tissue guards, many with a location caption in the negative. Oblong 8vos, the larger of the two with cloth brocade covers, detached, several early plates also detached cleanly at the seams; the second in brown cloth; lightly worn. 1890s
