Additional Details

A very curious production which asserts that tribal peoples in northern Japan are descended from one of the tribes of Israel. The plate volume consists of 80 full-page or multi-image copper engraved plates which are supposed to pictorially support this theory. While interesting in themselves, the plates are among the earliest produced by copper engraving in Japan. The text volume ends on page 153 (recto), but the verso of the leaf is blank, suggesting that no further typesetting was done and that the work was issued in its present state. The text volume claims to be an "Appended" edition, and the plate volume is supposed to be the "Third" edition. These claims are most likely spurious.
