Including vibrant street scenes and peaceful landscapes of Tokyo, Nikko, Yokohama, Osaka, Kyoto, and others, as well as occupational scenes, exquisite temples, elegant portraits of geishas, blooming gardens, and Mount Fuji. Hand-colored albumen prints, the images measuring approximately 7 7/8x10 inches (20x25.4 cm.), and the reverse, about half with captions in the negative; each separated by original tissue guards. Oblong 4to, with a highly decorative painted and gilt lacquer front cover with a bird and floral motif and a black lacquer back cover with a seascape and Mount Fuji in gilt highlights, chipping in upper left of back cover; refurbished leather backstrip; all edges gilt. 1890s
