Additional Details

First edition thus. This prayer book for domestic devotions was originally published by Benjamin Szold of Baltimore in 1871, but is here heavily revised by Marcus Jastrow. The text is in Hebrew and German, with the Haggadah appearing on pages 35-54. The 20-page Gebete für Kinder includes birthday prayers for children; it appears with a separate title page and reads left to right, with the Israelitisches Gebetbuch starting on the other end and reading right to left.
"Jastrow's Haggadah . . . is the first printed in America that shows the influence of Reform. . . . The Hebrew component is reduced to a minimum and it incorporates many emendations"--Goldman 63. Singerman 2510.
