Additional Details

first edition of the first Spanish-Aymara dictionary, printed for missionary use in the Andes. This is one of a handful of surviving works from a small Jesuit press in the mountains of southeastern Perú on the shore of Lake Titicaca. The press was not formally authorized, but seems to have operated under the umbrella of Francisco del Canto's established press in Lima. Medina, Lima 49; Palau 28512; Sabin 5023; Woodbridge, Printing in Colonial South America, page 45 ("a significant contribution to linguistics"). We know of no other Juli imprints at auction since 1981.
