Additional Details

Frank Allen Orofino (1910-2000), the founder of a New York medical supply firm who used the name Frank Allen professionally, was a key public relations volunteer for John F. Kennedy's successful 1960 presidential campaign. He designed and produced countless P.T. Boat tie clips, Kennedy sponges, posters, and even bottles of Jacqueline Kennedy perfume to help gain the attention of voters. The heart of this collection is a scrapbook he created in 1968 relating to the campaign, a three-ring binder of 115 original photographs of the Kennedys and associates, numerous photocopies of Orofino's correspondence with Kennedy and his staff, and other campaign ephemera. Orofino created 51 more or less identical copies of these scrapbooks with the title "The Legend of John Fitzgerald Kennedy" and distributed them to family members and Kennedy associates ranging from Frank Sinatra to Queen Elizabeth II. This copy was issued to nephew Donald Orofino. Also included are photocopies of acknowledgement letters from many of the recipients including Jacqueline Onassis. No other copies of "The Legend of John Fitzgerald Kennedy" have been traced at auction, and we have found only one other preserved in a library.
Also included are: 2 short personal Letters Signed by Jacqueline Onassis, 1981 and 1983 Letter Signed and telegram from Rose Kennedy, 1978 and 1973 Inaugural invitation and 2 tickets, 1961 7 Associated Press photographs of the Kennedy family, 1939-60 Funeral programs and mass cards for both John F. and Robert F. Kennedy A 1970 article on Frank Allen's Kennedy connections published by the New York Athletic Club An additional compilation of copies of Orofino's Kennedy-related correspondence, this one from 1987 Letter Signed from Mayor Robert F. Wagner, 1956.
