Additional Details

In tribute to the late President Kennedy, Great Britain built a monument to his memory, and ceded its acre of land to the United States. At the dedication ceremony, remarks were offered by former prime minister MacMillan, prime minister Wilson, the Queen, and American secretary of state Dean Rusk. Jacqueline Kennedy had 100 copies of their remarks privately printed and distributed to friends. This copy was given to Kennedy aide David Powers, curator of the Kennedy Library. He then gave it to his secretary with two signed inscriptions: "To Charlotte Woodfin, The best secretary a museum curator ever worked for. . . . I thought a Wasp like you would appreciate the Dedicatory Remarks by Her Majesty the Queen."
