a belgian symbolist tour-de-force. number 3 of only 55 copies on papier impérial du japon. The first 50 were printed for members of the Société de Bibliophiles les Cinquante, though this copy has the name delicately removed. Originally performed in 1893, Maeterlinck's play in five acts of doomed lovers captivated many avant-garde musicians such as Debussy. Each of the acts is prefaced by a delicately hand-colored plate by the great Symbolist artist Khnopff. Monod 7610.
