Additional Details

A poster for a concert held at Philadelphia's month-old Spectrum Arena. Although not mentioned in the poster, the show was billed elsewhere as a "Stars for Freedom" benefit for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Aretha Franklin headlined the performance and Nipsey Russell did a comedy routine, and news accounts show that Sidney Poitier cancelled his appearance but was replaced by Harry Belafonte. Martin Luther King spoke at the intermission. See the Philadelphia Inquirer, 22 October 1967; and the Camden Courier-Post, 27 October 1967.
