Additional Details

The American Negro Opinion Service was in existence by 1962, and was still going in 1980. From at least 1964 to 1973, it was led by a Chicago private detective and disabled former policeman named Jesse J. Glass (1919-2010), who said "the service supplies information on important law enforcement matters to whoever might use it" (Chicago Tribune, 7 April 1973). They undertook a survey in 1964 of racial bias in Chicago arrest patterns (Tribune, 30 January 1964), and staged numerous events. This banner may have been produced for a King memorial event.
