José Toribio Medina (1852-1930) of Chile was a wide-ranging and prolific scholar who is best known today for his bibliographies and histories of Latin America. This collection was gathered by book dealer Maury A. Bromsen, who edited a volume of essays on Medina''s legacy. It includes 19 literary and historical works by Medina; more than 20 works edited or translated by Medina, or featuring essays by him; and more than 50 works about Medina. Highlights include Medina''s Historia del Tribunal del Santo Oficio de la Inquisicion de Lima (2 volumes, Santiago, 1887); Noticias Bio-Bibliográficas de los Jesuítas Expulsos de América en 1767 (Santiago, 1914); as well as Schaible''s scarce Bibliografia de Jose Toribio Medina (Santiago, 1952).
