Additional Details

Perhaps the most important acts of this Congress were to ban the international slave trade ("An Act to Prohibit the Carrying on the Slave-Trade from the United States to any Foreign Place or Country," pages 19-21); and the following week to establish the United States Navy ("An Act to Provide a Naval Armament," pages 21-24). Also included are treaties with the Cherokees, Six Nations, Oneida, Tuscarora, and Stockbridge Indians (pages 250-260). Senators during this period included James Monroe, Aaron Burr, and Robert Morris; each act is signed in type by President Washington. Evans 29676; Shipton & Mooney, page II:906 (best collation).
