Additional Details

first edition. An important legal analysis by a Peruvian jurist from the Regalist school, supporting the crown's power over the church in America. The first volume is titled more fully "De Regio Patronatu ac aliis Nonnullis Regaliis, Regibus Catholicis, in Indiarum Occidentalium Imperio." The second is "De Regio Patronatu Indiarum Quæstiones Aliquæ Desumptæ et Disputatæ." The engraved titles read "Tractatus de Regio Patronatu. . . "
The two portraits were apparently printed from the same plate, but for some reason Frasso's face was completely re-engraved for the second volume. The two Frassos have only a faint resemblance (see illustrations). European Americana 677/92; JCB IV, page 37; Medina BHA 1626 (citing his own copy); Palau 94684; Sabin 25687 (note on 1775 edition: "First printed in 1677, which edition I have not seen"). No other copies found at auction since 1923.
