Additional Details

Second edition. Tucker's Commentaries, originally published in 1831, "firmly established his reputation in the field of legal authorship" (Dictionary of American Biography). They were based on his lectures at his short-lived Winchester Law School. Tucker offered a strong opinion on the inviolate right to bear arms, "which with us is not limited and restrained by an arbitrary system of game laws, as in England, but is practically enjoyed by every citizen, and is among his most valuable privileges" (page I:43). Both early owners of this set went on to serve as officers in the Confederate army: Edward Watts Morris as a lieutenant in the Virginia Light Artillery, and Micajah Woods in the 2nd Virginia Cavalry.
