Maj. James B. Pond (1838-1903) and his Pond Lyceum Bureau booked notable speakers on lecture tours across the United States. After his death, the business was carried on by his son James Jr. This collection includes signed letters from Pond clients ranging from Sioux physician Charles A. "Ohiyesa" Eastman, to poet John Kendrick Bangs, to New York politician Chauncey Depew. It also includes a folder relating to a more famous client, Winston Churchill: 8 telegrams from Churchill, 1900-01, typed transcripts of their extensive correspondence and Pond''s memoirs of their work together, and other notes.
