Additional Details

Publishing a letter from Frederick Douglass who says that while he is unable to attend, 'the one thought to be deeply emphasized and underscored on that occasion is this: The immediate, complete, and universal enfranchisement of the people of color of this whole country.' As far as we were able to determine, this project never quite came to fruition. The 'monument' was intended to be a 'seat of learning' for black and white together.
