Additional Details

first edition. Lincoln's Gettysburg Address was not the only event on the program on the day the cemetery was dedicated. The day began with music, a prayer, and then a two-hour address by Edward Everett. Immediately after the president's brief but powerful remarks, this song was performed by a choir. The words by James G. Percival begin "O! it is great for our Country to die, whose ranks are contending / Bright is the wreath of our fame; glory awaits us." 4 copies in OCLC; we have traced no other examples at auction.
