Three of these newspapers are dated 15 April and include the first reports of the assassination. The Rochester Daily Democrat, a morning paper, ran the headline "A Terrible Tragedy. Assassination in the Capital. The President Shot." The lot also includes two copies of the 15 April issue of the New York Times, both being the later edition with reports through 2:12 a.m.: "The President is still alive; but he is growing weaker." Also included in this lot are a complete run of nine New York Heralds from 18 to 26 April, plus 6 other issues the New York Times of 21 April, reporting on the hunt for Booth 4 Boston newspapers from April and a pair of Pittsburgh newspapers from April.
