Additional Details

The Kentucky farmstead where Abraham Lincoln spent his first seven years began to attract attention after his death. Alfred Dennett bought the property in 1894, hoping to build a hotel to take advantage of Lincoln's fame. After exhibiting the alleged Lincoln log cabin at various events across the country, Dennett went bankrupt in 1905. This broadside advertises the auction at which the land was sold to representatives of the Lincoln Farm Association; it is now part of the National Park Service.
