(LINCOLN, ABRAHAM.) Pen said to be carved from the timbers of Lincoln's Springfield house, with notarized affidavit. Pen, 8 1/4 inches, wood plus 1-inch metal nib; bracketed to a period frame containing a printed certificate (9 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches to sight) engraved with Lincoln's portrait in which Charles Gehrig attests over his signature that "the material from which these Penholders . . . were made, came from the house occupied by Abraham Lincoln at the time he resided in Springfield, Illinois, and that he secured said material from said house while the same was undergoing the repairs authorized by . . . the State of Illinois," witnessed by an unidentified court clerk with his embossed seal.
