Additional Details

Frederick Hill Meserve published his landmark "Photographs of Abraham Lincoln" in 1911, numbering 100 known portraits of Lincoln in chronological order and launching a small but devoted subculture of other collectors who sought new images and analyzed the chronology. Meserve later issued four supplements with eight new photographs each.
This unusual compilation was done by an unknown Meserve collaborator or enthusiast. It might be mistaken for a Meserve compilation except for the mis-spelling of his name on image M-22. Copy prints of M-1 through M-108 are arranged in chronological order with inked captions, followed by M-109 to M-116 in another format, placing the initial compilation before the third Meserve supplement was released in 1938. This section is followed by several miscellaneous Lincoln photos without captions, and two of a G.A.R. encampment dated 1934.
