Dr. Pauline E. Dinkins (1891-1961) was a pioneering African-American physician in Selma, AL who spent two years as a medical missionary in Liberia from 1927 to 1929. Upon her return to medical practice in Selma, she published this collection of folk tales, attractively illustrated by African-American artist Effie Lee Newsome, better known as the author of poems for children. This copy is stamped for sale at the Dinkins Specialty Store operated by her brother William H. Dinkins (1890-1977), the retired president of Selma University. OCLC lists editions of 21, 44, and 50 pages; priority is undetermined. None have been traced at auction.
