Additional Details

First edition of the only work of prose by the famed poet Gwendolyn Brooks; she had received encouragement from Langston Hughes early in her career. The recipient of this gift from Hughes, Inge Hardison (1914-2016), was a New York actress who would later gain greater fame as a sculptor for her "Negro Giants in History" series of busts. The New York Age of 28 August 1953 reported that she was a guest at a cocktail party thrown by Hughes.
