George Marion McClellan (1860-1934) was an African-American author and Fisk graduate whose first book was a collection of poems released in 1895. He was teaching at a public high school in Louisville, KY when his second book, this collection of short stories, was released. "Old Greenbottom Inn" tackled an interracial romance, and "Essie Dortch" described life in a black vaudeville company. No other examples traced at auction.
