Additional Details

first edition of a novel "founded on incidents in real life" by "an American Lady," written in the form of letters from a young woman to her friend. Most of the letters are from Philadelphia, but some are from New Jersey, Havre-de-Grace, MD, and Bristol, RI. One of the earliest American novels, preceded by only three others per Loshe. Two years later, with a Dublin edition, it became the first American novel printed abroad. Evans 25584; Loshe, Early American Novel 4 and pages 17-19; Wright, American Fiction 1127. None known at auction since 1911.
