a wonderful association copy, inscribed by helen amelia loguen who was married to frederick douglass's son lewis: "Haley G. Douglass from Aunt Amelia, May 29, 1900." Haley George Douglass (1881-1965) was the son of Charles Remond Douglass and Laura Antoinette Haley. The Remonds, Douglass's and Loguens were all part of what one might consider the black aristocracy of the day. The three families were all related by marriage.
