Additional Details

A two-paragraph review of Light''s "important new work on Wheatley." In part: "Many of our readers have probably heard of Phillis Wheatley, but few of them have seen a copy of the original edition of her poems . . . Her poems are, it must be confessed, in themselves no great additions to the world''s intellectual treasures, but regarded as the productions of a native African who enjoyed such slender advantages, they are remarkable . . . they are valuable as affording a proof of the capacity of the despised African race, against whom such inhuman and unchristian prejudices are cherished in our own country . . .
