To the printer of the London Chronicle: You have no doubt heard of Phillis, the extraordinary negro [sic] girl here, who has by her own application, unassisted by others, cultivated her natural talents for poetry. . .This girl who is a servant to Mr. John Wheatley. . .sailed last Saturday for London. . ." The poem takes up almost an entire column.
