first edition thus, one of 400 copies. With a warm presentation from an African American bibliophile and historian: "For Albert Jackson, with the kind regards of Arthur A. Schomburg." Schomburg wrote the "Appreciation" of Phillis Wheatley for this book. The 135th Street Harlem branch of the New York Public Library is named for him, and his collection which forms the core of the library's holdings. This edition, which was edited by Charles F. Heartman, prints letters by Wheatley for the first time.
