The first issue of this magazine aimed at New York''s West Indian population. Contains a very interesting analysis of Garvey''s United Negro Improvement Association and the NAACP, "which two, as we see it seem to be diametrically opposed in principles. The former organization is of universal adaptation, while the latter is narrowed down to strictly American limits." This editorial and another in the magazine lean toward Marcus Garvey, a Jamaican, and illustrate a divide between "American" blacks and West Indian blacks that to some extent survives to this day.
