Malcolm X stands at a podium with the microphone of New York radio station WBAI. Louis Farrakhan is visible behind him to the left, while to the right another man holds a photograph of the 27 April 1962 police assault on a Black Muslim in Los Angeles. A photograph of Malcolm X at a different event with the same prop image was taken in Harlem on 14 May 1963, and is held by Getty Images. The photographer Arthur L. Ward (1928-2014) spent decades photographing events and street scenes in Harlem.
