On a voyage from Philadelphia to St. Thomas, three crew members led by Joseph Baker killed the ship's mate, and made Captain William Wheland a captive navigator to bring the ship to port. Wheland escaped, overpowered all three mutineers, and brought them to trial. All three mutineers were hung in Philadelphia in 1800. This lot includes "The Confession of Joseph Baker . . . for Murder & Piracy Committed on the High Seas" and "A Narrative of the Horrid Murder & Piracy committed on Board the Schooner Eliza."
