The earliest clipping is dated 1769, and several manuscripts and clippings date from the 1790s through the War of 1812. Includes receipts and correspondence relating to ship construction, particularly of revenue cutters; and some extracts from the 1816 log of the revenue cutter Search. Several pages of clippings discuss the 1797 launch and early service of the USS Constitution. A fragment of a printed 1802 circular letter, "The Uniform Dress of the Captains and Certain Other Officers of the Navy," is tipped in.
