Additional Details

The first report of trouble aboard the Titanic takes up only part of the front page of the 15 April issue: "Titanic Strikes an Iceberg, Begins to Sink at Head . . . Women Being Taken Off in Boats." A list of some of the more notable passengers is provided. The next day, the entire front page is devoted to the tragedy, including a photograph of the ship and a map of the site: "Great Titanic Sinks; More Than 1,500 Lost." The 17 April issue shows family members anxiously awaiting news, while an iceberg illustrates the 18 April cover: "The World Gets the First Wireless Details of Titanic's Loss." The 25 April issue shows the actual iceberg which is believed to have brought the Titanic down. Front-page coverage of the disaster continued through the 30 April issue.
