(MARITIME ALBUM) Album containing more than 190 photographs, many by Robert P. Sherman, who was a member of an American merchant family with business interests in the Philippines. The album begins with a series of snapshots of a fleet in Manila, transitions to family images in Marblehead, Massachusetts, then returns to the Philippines, and then alternates between recreational snaps in the U.S. and scenes in the Philippines, including many pictures on board various vessels (the S.S. Manchuria, Kioto, Tenyo Maru, and others), a trip up the Grand Canal in China, and along the Pasig River, in which "himself" is depicted. Silver prints, 3x4 to 6 1/4x9 1/2 inches (7.6x10.2 to 15.9x24.1 cm.), mounted one to 6 per page, 4 are hand-tinted, several with notations in the negative, and many with handwritten captions, in ink, on mount recto.
