Charts appear to be graphite or ink tracings of other maps (details are too exact to be free-hand). Each chart contains the additional plotting of the track of vessels in the squadron. The charts are executed on various types of paper, from sturdy bond to tissue. Each is Signed by the squadron commander or the ship's master, sometimes by both. A sample of the chartings is as follows: Track Chart HMS Sloop Serpent Rangoon River to Diamond Island and back in January and March 1852 Track of HMS Serpent . . . from Singapore to Hong Kong Serpent Penang to Calcutta, Calcutta to Trincomalee, Trincomalee via Calcutta to Rangoon Track Chart Winchester Cape of Good Hope to Rangoon, July to September 1852 etc.
