Additional Details

King made the first of his five visits to Bridgeport, CT when he was invited to deliver the university's tenth annual Frank Jacoby Lecture. This program features a portrait with a two-page biography. The event featured introductions by the mayor and university president and a performance of the Star-Spangled banner before King spoke on "The American Dream" ; a Bridgeport rabbi followed with the benediction. King was in good company as a Jacoby Lecturer, preceded by Eleanor Roosevelt, Ralph Bunche, and Norman Vincent Peale. The series was founded to promote "the brotherhood of man and the equality of man regardless of race, color or creed."
