Additional Details

Edwin Hale Abbot (1834-1927) attended Harvard from 1851 through 1861, receiving his bachelor's degree in 1855 and remaining for his graduate work. He went on to a distinguished career as a lawyer and railroad executive. This scrapbook covers the entirety of his Harvard years, including graduation programs, exams, theater programs, student society materials, a list of library books, a dance subscription list, and lists of dormitory room assignments. Two notices are signed by historian Jared Sparks as Harvard's president. Also included are a few earlier items from his time at Boston Latin School, and a few items from his time as an instructor at Dixwell's Latin Academy in 1856 and 1857. Toward the end are 8 circulars from the Union Club of Boston dated 1863, including a membership list.
