A large group of family papers, most relating to Boston merchant John Andrews (1790-1872) and his son Charles T. Andrews (1830-1905), a railroad executive. Highlights include: a printed National Union Ticket ballot for Abraham Lincoln and local Massachusetts candidates, accompanied by a lengthy manuscript justification for his vote by Charles Andrews, 8 November 1864 ("Mr. Lincoln has proved himself to be an honest man, and anxious to save the country, though not as fast as I would like"). Also among Charles's papers are a Civil War letter from Captain H.W. Keyes of the 14th Massachusetts Infantry, 13 November 1863 papers relating to military transport aboard the Boston & Worcester Railroad from Massachusetts to the front, 1861-64 and a small diary kept as a boy in Lynn, MA, April-May 1841. The papers of John Andrews include a folder of 14 receipts in account with naval agent Amos Binney for supplies for an unnamed schooner being built at the Boston Navy Yard, 1820. A folder of papers of Peter S.M. Andrews relates mostly to a hotel investment, 1840-44, and includes 2 copies of a handsome broadside for the sale of the Humphrey's Pond House. Printed ephemera includes an 1833 issue of the Liberator; an 1822 issue of the unusual Boston gossip newspaper the Boston Castigator; the 1861 broadside "Constitution and By-Laws of the Nonatum Drill Club," and more. Among the other miscellaneous family papers are a few from Charles's granddaughter Elizabeth Blaisdell Andrews (1911-2004), from whose estate these papers were acquired.
