Additional Details

The "Monterey" was launched in 1932 (as was her sister ship "Mariposa"). She was basically engaged in the California-Hawaii trade. During the war she served as a troopship. The ship was sold to the government in 1952, but was repurchased later by the Matson Line. She was refitted and took on a new life under the Matson banner as the "Matsonia" in 1956. She was renamed "Lurline" in her later years with Matson and then sold to Chandris and renamed "Britanis" in 1971.
