Additional Details

The Army Medical Museum was founded during the Civil War to act as a research facility since many doctors were unfamiliar with gunshot wounds, the causes of infections, or even blood typing. This group was made to illustrate state-of-the-art hospital and equipment designs. While the photographs are uncredited, well known photographers who were commissioned included William Bell.
