Founded in 1876 as the Medical Department of Central Tennessee College, Meharry was the first medical school in the South for African Americans. It was chartered separately in 1915. This remarkable photograph shows over one hundred oval portraits of all of the faculty, and students from the medical, dental, pharmaceutical and research colleges. Located in Nashville, Meharry still offers graduate as well as post-graduate programs in all medical branches.
