Additional Details

first edition, scarce. James Still was the brother of William Still, noted Underground Railroad conductor and author. From an early age, Still wanted to be a doctor. However, without formal education, he became interested in "folk" or home remedies, many of which were learned as a young man from his Lenni-Lenape friends. He used his earnings to buy medical books. Still was known locally as "The Black Doctor of the Pines."
