Additional Details

A very touching letter from Joseph R. "Indian Dick" Winters (1816-1916), inventor, abolitionist, and herbalist to his old master's daughter, with excellent content. While the writing is clear and easy to read, the letter was obviously written by someone who spoke with a heavy Southern accent; the result being 'childring' for children; 'frankniss' etc. Winter invented a fire-escape that could be affixed to a building as well as a moveable one that was attached to a cart on wheels. Winter's mother was a Shawnee and it was through her that he learned about herbs and other folk cures.
