Additional Details

A local printing of a 20 April decree by the substitute president Pedro María de Anaya, issued shortly after the occupation of Veracruz by Winfield Scott´s forces and two days after the Mexican defeat at the Battle of Cerro Gordo. It states that no peace treaty will be made with the United States, and that any Mexican citizen who enters negotiations with the American forces will be declared a traitor.
