First edition. The life of Bernardino Alvarez (1514-1584), founder of Hospital San Hipólito in Mexico City, regarded as the first institution in the Americas to care for the mentally ill. Titled "Libro Primero," but the last 36 leaves are headed "Lib. II" Libros 3 and 4 were issued separately the following year.
