first edition of the life of Bartolomé Castaño (1601-1672), a Portuguese Jesuit who served as a missionary on the Sinaloa frontier from 1632 to 1648. He established several missions in what is now Sonora as far north as Banamichi, about 100 miles south of what is now the Arizona border. Medina, Mexico 1183; Palau 80729; Sabin 22817 (describes the second edition only); Wagner, Spanish Southwest 52. 5 copies in OCLC and none known at auction, though Rosenbach did offer the Wagner copy for $565 back in 1950.
