Additional Details

A popular guide to Mexican parish service during this period, with an emphasis on the cultural and language problems inherent in administering the sacraments to the Indians. It was frequently found in the estate inventories of parish priests (see Taylor, Magistrates of the Sacred, pages 156-7). The author was an Augustinian who taught the Nahuatl language at the University of Mexico for 22 years. The work is usually found bound with "Arte de el idioma mexicano" by the same author, but the present copy stands alone. Medina, Mexico 2370; Palau 219404.
