Additional Details

This broadside prints an edict dated 7 May 1782 explaining that a yearly consultation with a confessor would be required to read or possess books on the Inquisition's prohibited list. The first line reads "Nos los inquisidores apostolicos" as with many Inquisition broadsides; the body of the text begins "En todos tiempos ha enseñado una triste experiencia los daños que causa á la Religion, al Rey, á la Patria." Not in Medina, Mexico; 2 examples in OCLC, and one other known at auction.
