Additional Details

Edict by the Bishop of Puebla increasing the penalties for use and production of strong spirits such as "la tierra Tepachi, Guarapo, Vingui," fermented from "de Miel, ó Zumo de Cañas de Maiz, Zebada podrida, y otros simples como Piña" and even "Escremenno de Perros." Yes, that does translate to dog feces, and no, you should not need a law against drinking it. The edict elaborates on a previous 1725 edict which had been widely ignored. One in OCLC (National Library of Medicine), and none traced at auction since a Swann sale, 6 October 1988, lot 154.
